Chord Triads in the Major Scale

 

           

The triad is the smallest chord.  All chords are based on the triad. 

 

The triad (from tir, meaning three) is built of two thirds placed over each

other.  The tones of a triad are the ROOT, (the tone from which the triad is

 built), the third above, and the fifth above.

 

                        In the case of the C in the key of C:

 

                                    ROOT is  “C”

 

Counting on the scale; C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C the third note is “E” and the

 fifth is “G”.  The triad for C Maj is comprised of the notes C, E,G in any

order.

 

The triad may be built on each degree of the major and minor scale.
